Did you know that 1 in 4 school-aged children* has a vision problem?
My kids get their eyes checked each year, their last eye exams were in the spring and the only one who needs glasses is my daughter who is 15. I know a lot of my readers, friends and family who could use this “Kids See Free” offer, so I wanted to share it.
I recently stopped in to my local Zehrs Markets grocery store to ask the staff at the Optical Department a few questions. Zehrs has a Kids See Free program which is in its 5th year, where they can complete an eye-exam (by appointment if needed) and make available a free pair of eye glasses (up to $49 in value). If your child (aged 4-10) has already had an eye exam within the last 90 days, they can fill their prescription at Zehrs Optical Department for free (up to $49 in value). If you opt for a more expensive frame, or if your child requires more advanced lenses, the $49.00 will be used as a credit towards your purchase.
Usually this offer is only good until for the “Back-to-School” season, but because of popular demand, Loblaw’s (Zehrs’ parent company) has decided to extend it until the end of 2015.
I remember when my cousin’s son entered kindergarten and the teachers mentioned a few weeks later they thought his parents should get his eyes checked. When he left the store with his glasses on, he gasped and commented on every little thing. The world became a whole new place for him. My cousin felt so guilty when she realized just how bad his vision was. She beat herself up for not noticing prior to that September, but the staff at the Optical Department in Zehrs told me that this happens all the time. It is the most common thing. The majority of the kids with vision problems go undetected until after school begins, when they have to concentrate on a board at a distance or read a book for extended periods of time.
If your child hasn’t had an eye exam in over a year or has had one in the last 90 days and you haven’t filled their prescription yet… head over to your local Loblaw Optical Store (Zehrs, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws and other locations across Canada) and check in with the Optical Department about their Kids See Free program. It could just save you a bundle, just in time for Christmas!
